So you are getting married............

Planning a wedding takes time and effort to create the perfect event....right?  Along with the ceremony and reception, comes all the fine details that make the day so special.  The " First Dance", a tradition for all weddings, is as much a part of that event as the dress, the flowers, the menu, etc.and takes equal time to prepare for. To make your "First Dance' as special as the rest of the event I have detailed below a few things you need to know to get you started on your way to that successful "First Dance"  experience :

Michael Richardson & Gioia Covo
USBC- Miami, Fl

    1)  Plan to book your first lesson no less than TWO months before the week of
the wedding. This allows for any wedding-plan interruptions that inevitably will
occur and especially towards the week of the wedding when there is a flurry
         of activity.

    2)  Try to have your music chosen before the first lesson. There is a myriad of
popular songs and artists to choose from. Some for the most popular artists
are Frank Sinatra,  Nat King Cole,Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Andy Williams,
Harry Connick, Jr., etc.,  just to name a few. Be sure to have your music
choice(s) with you when you take your first lesson so that the Teacher
can help you decide which will work for you.

    3)  Try to have an idea of the size ( dimensions ) of the floor space you will
be using so that the wedding dance can be choreographed accordingly.

    4)  A description of the bride's wedding dress and the type of skirt ( tight, full,
hooped, bustled, to the floor, etc. ) is useful in working on the dance.

    5)  Bring shoes that closely resemble the shoes you will be wearing for the event
(similar heel height and leather soled) so that you get used to dancing
         in that type of shoe.

    6)  Try to plan out your schedule so that your lessons fall on the same time
and day each week. This allows for consistancy in your learning progress.

    7)  Based on the amount of time you have alotted yourselves to learn the dance
(8 months, 6 months, 3 months...etc.) there are several different pricing
packages offered based on the numbers of hours. Decide which
package/number of lessons feels right for you.

Try give yoursleves enough time to take the lessons and practice before
your wedding day. The closer you get to the actual event, the less time you will
find to devote to your dancing. So be prepared well in advance while things are
    still relatively calm.
